My Honest Review of Luisa Zhou’s ETE Program - How I Built My Business

ETE review

Thinking about joining a business coaching program? Read this first.

If you're like me, you're a high achiever with a passion for helping others. But when it comes to building your coaching business? You’re stuck.

That used to be me, too. Despite my Oxford degree and two somatic certifications, I had no idea how to attract clients or make money from my coaching. And after investing in a business coaching program that left me more confused and drained than ever, I nearly gave up.

But I decided to give it one last shot – and I’m so glad I did.

In this post, I’m sharing what actually helped me get unstuck – my honest experience inside Luisa Zhou’s Employee to Entrepreneur (ETE) program, what finally moved the needle in my business, and how pairing business strategy with somatic work created the biggest transformation of all.

The investment that almost made me quit

Like a lot of new coaches, I thought getting certified was the hard part.

I had two certifications, a deep passion for transformation, and a clear calling to help others.

But there was one problem: I had no idea how to build a business.

Marketing felt like this giant, tangled mess I couldn’t figure out. I didn’t know how to talk about what I did in a way that would “make sales.” I didn’t know how to “get clients” at all. And I didn’t even have a personal Instagram – so the idea of “showing up online” felt incredibly overwhelming..

So, like many coaches starting out, I looked for help.

Finally, I found a business coaching program that promised big results. It sounded like exactly what I needed, so I invested a scary amount of money.

But it turned out to be a disaster.

The program was fluffy and scammy – all "you go, tiger!" energy with no real substance.

On the surface, it looked like there was a ton of support: multiple coaches, lots of structure. But in reality? I was completely on my own.

(I wish someone had warned me. A “community” doesn’t automatically mean more support or accountability – it often just means you’re in a group of people who are exactly where you are, can’t help you, and are all asking for help they’re not getting.)

I’d log into yet another group call, listen to answers that had nothing to do with my situation, and watch the clock tick down. There wasn’t even space for me to ask my questions. I stopped posting in the community (no point). I started to dread the calls. And worst of all, I felt even more confused than when I started.

Pretty soon, I began questioning everything.

Maybe I wasn't cut out to run a business…

Maybe the gap between loving the coaching work and actually marketing myself was too wide to bridge…

The whole experience left me feeling so energetically drained that I swore off business coaching entirely.

I had no plans to try again…until an email made me curious in spite of myself.

Why I took one more chance (and how Employee to Entrepreneur was different)

I ended up subscribing to Luisa Zhou’s newsletter — and right away, it stood out.

Something in her approach felt different. For one, her emails didn’t make wild promises about “six figures in six weeks.” And she wasn’t pretending business was easy.

Instead, she talked about building a business in a way that felt intelligent, grounded, and doable. Employee to Entrepreneur (ETE) didn’t feel like a generic “post on social media” program. It actually felt like a system. And it actually made sense! It had a clear step-by-step, felt practical, and focused on real results.

For the first time in months, I felt a spark of hope.

Eventually, I decided to give it one last shot – and joined ETE.

How ETE helped me build a real coaching business (not just a hobby)

When I joined ETE, I didn’t just want tips. (You can get those from ChatGPT!)  I needed a way to actually make this work.

And that’s exactly what I got.

I finally realized:

The main thing holding me back wasn’t my skills – it was not knowing how to talk about them so people understood their value.

Before ETE, I was completely clueless about how to describe my work in a way that resonated with people. Now I see that most business success comes down to being able to clearly communicate the value you provide – and ETE taught me exactly how to do that.

But ETE didn't just teach me marketing. I also, finally!, got the support I needed.

This was one of biggest surprises for me: The level of real, hands-on support in Employee to Entrepreneur.

Early on, I reached out to the ETE team about launching something I'd created in my previous program.

They gently told me it wasn’t the best idea to launch it right away – but they didn’t just shut me down. They helped me move forward with clear, practical steps. (In my previous program, I would have just gotten a “You’ve got this!” type response – or even worse: no substantial response or a cookie-cutter one.)

Turns out, they were right, and my launch flopped. But even then, I didn’t feel alone. I had a team beside me who actually knew what they were doing – and who wanted me to succeed.

And that’s just one example.

In my first program, I was on my own. There was no real guidance or feedback. Just me, trying random things and hoping something would work. For example, when I pitched podcasts, I got nothing but crickets.

After joining ETE, it was a completely different story. I had clear direction, personal feedback, and a plan that actually made sense for my business. Within weeks of applying what I learned, my response rate skyrocketed. I booked a podcast almost immediately – and that single appearance led directly to my first sales call.

It’s such a relief to know my marketing finally works!

And the wins didn’t just stop there. In ETE, I also:

  • Built a website I love and feel proud of
  • Created content that feels authentic and actually connects with people
  • Developed a clear lead magnet and sales process that works for my business

The transformation goes beyond just building a business

But the real change wasn't just in my business metrics...

Learning how to build my business also made me a better coach.

Before ETE, I was terrified of putting myself out there. It felt too vulnerable. So I’d overthink every word, second-guess my expertise, and avoid opportunities because I didn’t feel “ready.”

Now?

I actually look forward to showing up and sharing my voice. For example, podcast interviews have become genuinely fun. And when I pitch myself, I can do it with confidence and dignity…because I know the value I’m bringing to the conversation.

Would I recommend Employee to Entrepreneur?

Without hesitation – yes.

ETE gave me something I'd never had before: the confidence that I could actually do this.

It made business feel doable instead of overwhelming, and it gave me a clear roadmap instead of leaving me to figure everything out on my own.

Perhaps most importantly, it showed me that marketing doesn't have to feel manipulative or inauthentic – it can be a genuine form of service.

Of course, building a business still has hard moments. But I don’t know how else to say this…

Before ETE, every small failure felt personal. Now, I see challenges as part of the process. I can assess what needs to be tweaked without feeling like a failure. And that mindset shift, plus the skills to act on it, are priceless.

That’s why I wholeheartedly recommend ETE to anyone serious about building a sustainable coaching practice. If you’re curious to get started, you can learn more here.

And while ETE gave me the strategy, I also know that even the best plan won’t work if your nervous system is working against you. That’s where somatic coaching comes in – it’s what helped me implement ETE’s strategy without sabotaging myself.

Beyond strategy: What helped me break free from self-doubt, anxiety, and sabotage

Here’s the thing: even with the best strategy, many coaches still stay stuck – procrastinating, doubting, or quietly self-sabotaging.

It’s not because we’re lazy or uncommitted – quite the opposite. It’s because our nervous system doesn’t feel safe doing what business requires:

  • Getting visible
  • Asking for money
  • Handling rejection
  • Putting our ideas out into the world

For many high-achieving women, these actions can trigger old patterns of feeling unsafe, unworthy, or “not enough.” And no amount of mindset work or business training can fully override that – because it’s not just a mindset problem.

That’s where somatic coaching comes in.

Why somatic coaching made ETE’s strategy work for me

Somatic work bridges the gap between knowing what to do and actually doing it. It helps you reconnect with your body – your built-in compass for safety, alignment, and self-trust.

When you feel safe in your body, you can show up consistently, make aligned decisions, and take bold action without self-sabotaging.

For me, that meant trusting myself enough to follow ETE’s strategy without second-guessing every step. And if I’d had this awareness earlier, I probably wouldn’t have made the costly decision to join that first, misguided business program.

What I know now is this: real transformation happens when you have both — the proven business systems from ETE and the nervous system support that somatic coaching provides.
